The world of watches has been evolving rapidly for decades, so in order to be successful in this field you need to offer enthusiasts something new. With the aim of producing unique and complex pieces, two artists together with a team of craftsmen set up the Designa Individual Manufacture (DiW) brand.
Originating in Germany the brand focuses on watch modification, with the ability to work with high quality composite materials such as carbon fiber. As innovation is one of the most important concerns of the well-known brand, DiWspecialists have developed and improved working techniques to create parts unmatched in the watch modification industry.
Having a great popularity in the world of exclusive watches, the watches produced by Rolex are known for the quality they offer. Launched in 1953, the Rolex Submariner was the first divers’ wristwatch waterproof to a depth of 100 meters (330 feet). This was the second great breakthrough in the technical mastery of waterproofness, following the invention of the Oyster, the world’s first waterproof wristwatch, in 1926.
In watchmaking, the Submariner represented a historic turning point as it set the standard for divers’ watches. Today, the Submariner is waterproof to a depth of 300 meters (1,000 feet). Known as the perfect companion for diving experiences and one of the most successful models of the brand to-date, the Submariner is the model on which DiW based their diver’s collection of bespoke customized timepieces.
The Submariner Collection by Designa Individual Watches consists of nine models, including the Parakeet Submariner, Aquamarine Submariner, Persimmon Submariner, and EOC Submariner. Each model differentiates itself through the custom dial and bezel colors, often being inspired by exquisite materials, far-off locations or elements around the world. The Dune Submariner for example, features a light sand dial similar to the dunes in the desert, on the same principle the Aquamarine model comes to life with a dial in the color of exotic ocean water.
The DiW Submariner’s case and bracelet are sandblasted resulting in a high-end matte gray finish. In terms of the materials used for the production of these watches, a mix of carbon fiber, ceramic, and stainless steel bring each design to fruition. Models weigh around 140 grams, with their original Calibre 3235, being a new generation movement, entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex for a superlative level of performance, featuring the new chronergy escapement and parachrom hairspring.
Certified as a Swiss chronometer by COSC (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute), it is tested a second time by Rolex after being cased to ensure that in everyday use it satisfies Rolex’s criteria for precision, which is twice as exacting as those for an officially certified chronometer. This control of the final precision of the assembled watch is carried out using a methodology and high-technology equipment specially developed by Rolex.
The star of this collection by Designa Individual Watches is the “Essence of Carbon” Submariner, featuring a full high-end carbon fiber dial and hand-encrusted carbon in the bezel. Another interesting detail is the night-time viewing mode, under cover of darkness the indicator for every hour glows allowing you to view the time.
As for the uniqueness of the collection, each model is produced in 15 pieces, as the brand wants to offer the most unique models possible and each model comes with a seven-year warranty from DiW. Discover more details at Designa-individual.com/
