Previously a lawyer in the field of IP and new tech, Julia saw a new fight she wanted to tackle in MMA and web3. Her first endeavor was an agency that focused on web3 and blockchain education. They also managed copyrights for some artists and luxury brands. She was following the legalization of MMA which gave her the original idea behind MetaFight. She dropped everything 2.5 years ago and went all in. MetaFight is working toward revolutionizing the approach to sports management and the sport of MMA is simply the proof of concept.

There is not alot of product in the sport of MMA and this doesn’t benefit the fighters. While revenue flows freely, the breakdown of who gets what does not. Almost 95% of fighters are struggling, despite the large revenues the sport brings in. Web3 is the foundation for removing the middleman, and MetaFight aims to educate athletes on how to benefit from IP and help them build collectibles. They currently help fighters develop digital assets with different rarities. All the collectible cards are sold randomly so all athletes get a fair shot at benefiting.

MMA fans are the primary target initially. It’s a way for them to get close to the fighters and provide support to their favorites. The game is a management trading card game, so fans can improve the performance of their cards and strategize by placing fighters in different arenas with different boosters. Julia describes it as “a management game, but with the mechanics of trading card games like Pokemon.”

MetaFight has already broadcast 250 live fights with gamification and metaverse socialization, where fans can engage in VR or on desktop and mix with other fans using their own avatar. There are merch shops in the metaverse to explore and even the option to engage in friendly wagers with others inside. After 6 months the platform had 31k users and the KPIs were on point. Fighters tend to have millions of followers on social media and they decided the organic marketing from them was their best route and it worked. They’ve already signed licenses with 700 fighters and have become a household name in MMA. MetaFight will be launching the full platform in September and the TGE is set for any day.

There will be a free starter pack and starter game for those that want to just give it a try. For fans that want to go farther they can start collecting the NFTs and become a manager of sorts to help their fighters win. Some of the options include sending your fighters to other countries to learn new styles, making them rest, strategizing where you place them, and who you team them up with. It’s shaping up to be an immersive experience that should attract web2 and web3 fans alike.

They’ve partnered with well-known brands like Animoca, Immutable, Vayner Games and more. They are also in talks with crypto.com and the UFC. MetaFight hopes to benefit the entire MMA ecosystem by bringing revenue back to the fighters and allowing fans more opportunities to engage. Eventually, MetaFight plans to expand to all fighting sports.
