Instagram is rolling back its photo apps feature citing research it is not widely used. Essentially, the feature showed the map of the world with your pictures pinned in areas you clicked. Some users have already received the update with the Photo Map feature missing. Soon, it will be rolled out across all platforms and for all users. Regarding the roll back, Instagram released this statement:
Photo Map was not widely used, so we’ve decided to remove the feature and focus on other priorities.
While the Photo Maps feature is only being removed from profiles of other users, you can still see the feature in your own profile. Still, if you visit someone’s profile, you will no longer be able to see the third icon of a map drop pin. You will only see three icons:
- The icon for the bullet layout
The icon for viewing tagged images of that users
The icon for the grid layout of images
Despite Instagram stating it was not widely used, many users expressed sadness at the removal. Other Instagram changes in the recent past include Instagram Stories and the ability to pinch to zoom in and zoom out of pictures and videos on the app.
